Facundo Pellistri has differing view to Solskjaer on his Manchester United future

Facundo Pellistri wants to stay at Manchester United this season after catching the eye in the pre-season win over Derby County at Pride Park.

The Uruguayan came on at half-time and scored United’s second goal at Pride Park, looking lively in the first run-out of pre-season.

Pellistri spent last season on loan at Alaves in Spain and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed he is set to go out on loan again, but the 19-year-old would be keen to remain at United and work at Carrington as he tries to improve his game.

“I went on loan to Alaves, I feel good, now I’m here trying my best and I would like to stay here, but I’m still working hard and improving,” he told MUTV.

United spent £9million on signing Pellistri from Penarol last summer and this was his first appearance in a senior side. It was in a youthful United squad that travelled to Pride Park to face the Championship side and the goalscorer is impressed with the quality of youngsters at the club.

“There is a lot of young talent, all the guys want to improve, the training is really hard and I’m very happy with that. Young guys are trying their best and looking for a place in the first team,” he said.

Pellistri’s goal saw him round Kelle Roos before slotting into an empty net and he latched on to the pass from Shola Shoretire to break into the penalty area.

“I entered into the middle, asking Shola for the ball, he saw me really well and when I saw the goalkeeper I tried to go one way and score,” he said.

Solskjaer used 23 players against Derby and Pellistri believes the work out in the sun will be valuable for the squad in the weeks to come.

“It was a strong match, in pre-season the matches are always very strong. Although we had to play well we did it and we won and that is very important,” he said.

“It was really hot, in pre-season a few weeks ago it was raining and so we weren’t so used to this sun but we drank a lot of water and prepared well before.”
