Former Real Madrid sporting director says Raphael Varane is leaving amid Manchester United interest

Former Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano claims Raphael Varane is certain to leave the La Liga giants in the summer transfer window.

It looks set to be a pivotal summer of change at Real with Carlo Ancelotti replacing Zinedine Zidane as manager and immediately being tasked with replacing two of the club’s best players.

Former club captain Sergio Ramos has already signed for Paris Saint-Germain while defensive partner Varane is a target for Manchester United after rejecting a new deal with the Spanish club.

It is understood United are close to agreeing personal terms with the France international as they look to further strengthen their squad after agreeing a move for Jadon Sancho.

Sources have told MEN Sport that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are not ‘far off’ finalising the 28-year-old’s personal demands and they hope to conclude the deal within the next few weeks.

Some reports in Spain have suggested Varane could yet pen a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, though former director Valdano insists he is leaving.
