Manchester United have reportedly begun talks with Real Madrid over a deal to bring defender Raphael Varane to Old Trafford this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær is desperate to get a new center back to play with Harry Maguire as the Red Devils try to put together a Premier League challenge next season.
Victor Lindelof has been Maguire’s regular partner in recent seasons, but the heart of United’s defense is still an area where there is room for improvement if they are to challenge for major awards again.

Varane appears to be United’s No. 1 target and he has less than a year left on his Real contract. The Spanish club risk losing the player for free next summer if they do not redeem the 28-year-old center-back this year.
However, Real appear to be reluctant to lose Varane after allowing Sergio Ramos to leave the club with a free transfer earlier this summer.
Sportsmail revealed earlier this month that the Red Devils are ready to make a formal bid for the LaLiga giants regarding their French center-back after being assured the player wants to move to Old Trafford.
Now according to Fabrizio Romano, United have already been in talks with Real for a week as they try to reach an agreement.
It is claimed that Varane is eager to move to the Premier League, but respects Real’s desire to keep him and will do nothing to damage his relationship with the Spanish giants.

Sportsmail revealed that Real’s assessment of £ 50 million for a player who has one year left on his contract is still considered too high by United.
Varane has been with Real for a decade, winning three LaLiga titles, four Champions League trophies and four FIFA Club World Cups with the Spanish giants, which he has played 359 times since his debut.
The French international has yet to return to pre-season for the LaLiga giants, now led by former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti following the departure of Zinedine Zidane at the end of last season.
Varane will return to Real training late due to his efforts for France at Euro 2020 this summer, where Les Bleus went out in the final 16 stage after their defeat against Switzerland on penalties.
Manchester United have also agreed to sign Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho for £ 73 million this summer.
