Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘must win a trophy this season or leave Manchester United’

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must win a trophy this season or walk away from the club, according to Arsenal legend Ray Parlour.

Solskjaer has been at the club since December 2018 and is entering his third full season in charge of the Reds, with the club trophyless since 2017 under Jose Mourinho when they won the Europa League and League Cup.

After reaching five semi-finals under the Norwegian, United finally made it to a final against Villarreal last season but were beaten on penalties in the Europa League. Now with Jadon Sancho set to join their side, as well as chasing the likes of Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier to bolster their options, Parlous believes it’s do or die for Solskjaer this season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former England international said; “He’s under pressure… he knows that though,”

“He’s a realistic man and he’s been in great dressing rooms that were very successful under Sir Alex Ferguson.

“He knows exactly what Manchester United is all about, he knows the expectation around the world – the support they have is unbelievable, probably the best around the world of the Premier League.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs every help he can get and he’s getting good quality players in which gives him a good chance of winning trophies. But if he doesn’t win trophies and they have a poor season, I’m sure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s going to be the first to admit it hasn’t worked and will move on.”

Solskjaer is currently under contract until the end of the upcoming season, but there are talks underway for a new deal for the Norwegian coach to extend beyond 2022.
